National 1 League

What it is

The National 1 League merges US Club Soccer's NPL and US Youth Soccer's National League into a single team-based national competition of roughly 10,000 teams. Michigan sits in Midwest District 5, run by MSYSA, which is designed to cut travel — two dozen Michigan clubs field N1 teams, alongside a few out-of-state members (Fort Wayne Sport Club in Indiana, Perrysburg SC in Ohio). Note the shape of it: for 2026-27 the district runs boys divisions at U13–U14 and girls divisions all the way from U13 to U18/19, so it is currently a much deeper option on the girls side. High-performing N1 clubs can be promoted into the ECNL Regional League. If a club's website still says 'NPL' or 'National League' — that's this now.
